MY DIARY - Paris - Restaurants

When you go away on holiday it is always nice to have great recommendations for places to eat and drink from people who have visited there before or even better from the local people that live there. I was lucky enough to know someone who lives in the centre of Paris so they could recommend places to go near our hotel, it definitely makes it easier when you don't need to worry about wasting your money on a place that isn't really that special.
I don't know about you but when I am on holiday the places where you go to eat and drink is really important and for me these were 2 really special places that were probably some of the best memories of the weekend break.

HOTEL AMOUR

I am so glad we managed to find this place as it ended up being a really special evening. We were greeted by a really friendly waiter who told us because we hadn't booked he could just squeeze us in and that we could only sit outside in the garden area, this was perfect for us as it was a lovely evening and it looked very intriguing out there. The restaurant soon got packed with people and it was a great atmosphere. It was all candle lit outside so we could only just see our food but it didn't matter as it was so delicious and we were just to busy taking in the amazing space we were sat in, it was like we were in a secret garden and were looking down on the people that were sat dining inside the restaurant. The photo of the football table was one of the quirky touches to the hotel, it was placed right outside the toilets, maybe it is for when there is a queue for the toilet and you can have a game of table football whilst you are waiting!

CAFE MARLY

Another amazing experience for us was going to this place for an early dinner and drinks. We had a long day of sight seeing and shopping so we were ready for an unwind and what a place to do it in. Located on the left wing on the Musee Louvre, just feet away from the glass pyramid and the Eiffel Tower in the distance is what truly make this place magical. Here was the place where we had the best Mojito and this may sound slightly ridiculous but the best Coke we have ever had. Both of these drinks arrived with silver spoons in them, the Mojito yes I can understand the spoon but the Coke we just couldn't work out, that is until I lifted it out of the glass to see it covered in sugar. It was probably one of the most expensive Cokes we have ever had but my boyfriend was so impressed he still will not talking about it. I know when you think how much sugar is already in the drink but this one more spoonful seriously made all the difference. Funny I know to talk about it this much but it was definitely worth it! There was again an inside restaurant and also a seating area down at the bottom on the flat surface but the best seating is on the balcony where you can take all the beautiful views in.

If you are taking a trip to Paris anytime soon I would definitely recommend checking out these places, they made the trip for us!

Thankyou Paris

Just got back from an amazing Birthday trip to Paris with my boyfriend. I didn't realise how good the weather was going to be over there, it is a good job I had packed the suitcase so it was bursting full as I had the right selection of clothes for all weathers, well that is my excuse anyway!

Here is a selection of a few of my outfits that I wore around Paris, we decided we wanted to walk everywhere around the city so my outfits were rather more practical than being as fashion forward as I would normally wear. Hope they still satisfy your fashion senses!

The jeans I am wearing are black ankle length skinny J-Brands that have ripped knees and I have rolled them up slightly. I find ankle length jeans really flattering as obviously the ankle is the smallest part of a woman's body so it will always make the leg slimmer. The part that is shown is what the eye will be drawn to and not to the part that you don't want the attention to be on. These J-Brands are great as they stay skinny as well, I hate it when you wear skinnies and after one wear they go baggy, it is not comfortable or flattering at all.

My t-shirt is Givenchy. I am a huge fan of Givenchy t-shirts, I love the longer length of them and the thickness of them, they are quite a masculine, rock n roll fit but this is the style I love wearing.

The belt again is my leopard print Topshop one, it gives the detail to the outfit and the attention of the outfit is all on the belt.

My black all leather Converse are what I wore most of the trip in Paris throughout the days, always comfortable but yet still cool and stylish. I love wearing these shoes on my days off when back home.

This was the outfit I wore on our last evening in Paris. I had my stretch Marc By Marc Jacobs dark denim jeggings on, I wear them quite often when I know I am sitting down all night and eating and drinking as they are so comfortable. They are super soft and have a wide elastic band across the top of them, they are great as they are flat fronted so don't show any lines from a button, zip or belt loops.

The top is a Helmut Lang top which I bought in a size large because as you will probably be aware by now I love over sized jersey pieces. Helmut Lang pieces especially because of the soft  jersey fabrics and the cut of them I feel always look better worn slightly looser so they hang off the body rather than hug to the body.

My boots are my trusty old Frye black leather boots which I have in tan as well. They are a great boot that I have owned for many years and I have just recently had a new sole and heel grip put on them which I am relived has given them a new lease of life. I would be lost without them!

The bag is my Birthday treat to myself which I bought in Paris so I just had to take it out for my last night. I am in love with the red colour, I have never had a bag this colour before. It is a Givenchy bag and I love the style of it with the over sized buckles and zips. I am a huge fan of Givenchy's rock and roll laid back style they create in their clothes and accessories. It is a bag that you can actually use instead of being afraid to ruin it by wearing it more than a few times. Also I tend to go for quite over sized bags but this one is a great bucket shape which can still fit plenty in it but looks quite a neat shape from the exterior.

These are just a few of my outfits, I will be posting more about my time in Paris as the week goes on. Hope you like what you have seen so far!

Thankyou Paris

I'M WEARING - Leopard

I have been searching for a leopard print coat for a while now, I am a huge fan of fur and leopard print. I love how no matter how you wear leopard print whether it be on a belt, scarf or coat, no matter how small or big it always makes a great statement. As you know I have owned my leopard print belt for ages and I love using it as a statement piece in my outfits.

Here is my new leopard print jacket I found. What I love about this piece is that it has a short hair texture on it so it doesn't make you feel bulky but still has the fur effect. Also I love the A-line swing shape to it, worn with a slim silhoulette underneath it gives a really chic look and balances the shape of the coat out perfectly. I found the jacket for an absolute bargain of £16, something I very rarely do is buy a bargain but how could I resist this, I had seen it at the start of the season but never got round to buying it and then the other day one of my friends dragged me to a sale rail and was rumaging through, there it was hidden away, the only one and it was my size. The great thing is you don't even need to justify a purchase like this to anyone, it would simply be rude not to buy it!

I wore the jacket with my vintage high waisted pale denim levi shorts which I adore wearing with my dark grey wool tights. I half tucked in my dark denim colour Marc by Marc Jacobs top with pocket button detail so I just had a slight glimpse of my leopard belt peeking out beneath the top. I had a bit of a double denim and double leopard print thing going on, hope I didn't overkill it, just really tried to touch on the looks and not overpower either of them in my complete outfit, this is what I find helps by only half tucking in your top to show just a little bit of the belt.

Hope you like it!

Thankyou Leopard print

On Thursday evening I ventured my way over to Liverpool in tow with my fashion buddy Siobhan who writes the blog StyleSpotterFashionBlogger. Susie Bubble of StyleBubble and Stevie from DiscothequeConfusion were holding an event at the Topshop in Liverpool so we headed down there to talk blogs with them.

I could've spent hours deciding what to wear but as usual I ended up being last minute and throwing together my outfit. Here's what I came up with...

Firstly I knew I wanted to wear my flat Prada boots, these are what I call my wader boots, they remind me of fisherman's wellies. I wanted to be in flats as I knew we had a bit of walking to do around the City.

I had on my trusty Markus Lupfer metallic leggings which you could only slightly see and I thought it would give the outfit a bit more of a kick for the evening.

The layering black piece underneath is an Acne low scoop back dress/top which is one of those great pieces that can be worn in so many different ways. I rouche it up to wear with my skinnies and layer underneath my looser tops such as racer backs and anything where you want to get the effect of showing off your back but without actually revealing to much. These low back tops are great pieces to use for layering.

The t-shirt I have on is an old vintage rock band one which I have worn to death. A few years ago I hacked off the bottom of the tee to make it more cropped, it was to wear with my high waisted Levi vintage shorts or some of my high waisted minis. Sometimes I do regret cutting off the bottom of it when I want to wear it on its own with jeans without layering it. We always do these crazy things with scissors when we are younger thinking we are some kind of cool designer!

The leopard skin belt is from Topshop and as mentioned in previous posts is just one of my collection of must have belts from my fashion survival kit!

The leather cropped bomber jacket is the Milla one I have had for years and don't know what I will do when it wears out too much. I have layered it with a Topshop denim sleeveless tie dye jacket which I picked up a while back and I have loved it everyday since I got it. I love how it changes the complete look of my overall outfit and gives my leather jacket a different take. I wore this leather jacket and denim sleeveless combo a lot when I was at New York Fashion Week last year, it seemed to give all my outfits a bit more of a Punk grungy, laid back feel which I am really into when off duty.

Susie Bubble and Stevie were great and gave a real insight into their inspirations for their blog websites and love of fashion.

Thankyou Susie Bubble and Stevie

WISH LIST - Isabel Marant - Pink Cropped Jean

If we didn't get enough of Isabel Marants's cropped skinny flare pants last Fall Winter 2010 then the Spring Summer collection is going to knock you for six, as it has with me. The new summer version has been released which are a pale pink cropped jean with lace up front and they are amazing!

(image taken from Isabel Marant Spring/Summer 2011 campaign)

You would probably most recognise the cropped Isabel trousers from the Fall collection when Victoria Beckham was spotted wearing the red leather version, along with the stiletto Prada heel which made the perfect combination.

Models have been wearing the French label Isabel Marant for a long time now, they love the boho chic Parisian feel the label has and has been a great daywear brand for them to wear when they are off-duty. A few celebrities started to latch onto the brand, such as Kate Bosworth and this is when the obsession with the brand started, including my obsession to.

The Isabel Marant store only opened in New York about a year ago and the stock was selling out before it even hit the shopfloor. Literally when I went to visit the store which is quite a large space, there were about 2 or 3 items on each rail!

The accessories were the first pieces that everyone wanted, the boots, along with the feather necklace and earrings. The demand for these pieces was insane, people were willing to pay 4 times more than then original selling price.
- Autumn/Winter 2009 boots called the Otley
Spring/Summer 2010 boot called the Dana

Now to the piece which I am lusting after from this seasons Spring Summer 2011 collection. The pale pink washed out cropped jean with lace up front. The jeans were the first look on the catwalk that were shown, they weren't the only faded pink pieces that came down the runway but these were the style that caught my eye. They are also featured in the campaign for Isabel Marant that Gisele Bundchen is featured in. The collection was inspired by a trip to California that Isabel went on. The pink, bleached, coloured denim, check shirts and beach wavy hair, along with the mini skirts and dresses and the American football styles, all give reference to this California Cool trend.

Since the Spring Summer 2011 launched there has been a lot of trend talk and celebrity sightings showing this pink denim trend, from the highstreet recreating the pink denim trend, Katy Perry has been spotted wearing similar pink jeans and also Kate Bosworth, who is already a huge fan of Isabel has just recently been on the cover of Nylon magazine wearing the Spring Summer Isabel Marant pink shorts.

I'm just hoping I am going to be able get my hands on these cropped pink jeans before they sell out like most of her previous collections. I have already been dreaming about all the ways I am going to be able to wear them with what I already have in my wardrobe. My simple basic tee's in white, black and grey with my ballet pumps and flip flops for in the summer and daytime. Or with my wooden platforms or pewter Gina stiletto ankle boots, along with my Acne pale blue blazer to work the  pastel ice cream colour trend for more of a fashion forward look.

You see I already have it all worked out, now all I need to do is make the purchase, roll on the Summer!

Thankyou Isabel Marant

TRENDS - Fall Winter 2011 - Animal Magic

We have seen many emerging trends over the past few weeks ready for Fall Winter 2011 but one which has particularly had me hooked is the designer obsession with ANIMALS. Obviously we saw a lot of fur coming down the runway which links to the animal trend but if you really homed in on a lot of the prints coming down the runways you would notice that a lot of them were animal prints. The animal print is what is really different about this new trend, it so refreshing to see a different type of animal print from the usual leopard or snakeskin print that we see on a day to day basis.

Already from this seasons Spring/Summer 2011 collections we had started to see the different twist on the use of animal print but most designers were using the animal as one large piece on the fabric. What is different about the recent Fall/Winter 2011 collections is that it is an all over animal print.

SPRING SUMMER 2011

BLUMARINE - Using the traditional leopard print that we regularly see but oversizing the print and replacing the brown tones with bright turquoise and pink to add a more modern take on the print.

DOLCE & GABBANA - Known for their use of leopard print in their collections, this season they added white lace and embroidery to make a point of difference and give a fresh take on the leopard print they normally use.
GIVENCHY - Use splashes of leopard print in a more graphic way with their Summer collection. The leopard print looks strong and sharper rather than soft, it has more of a masculine, harder feel to it rather than a boho, feminine feel.
LOUIS VUITTON - Rather than a particular animal print being used, they used an actual animal printed or embellished onto their Summer collection. This was really the start of the new modern take on the animal trend emerging. Again Marc Jacobs being the leader in the start of this trend.

FALL WINTER 2011

TOPSHOP UNIQUE - Dalmations were the influence for this show in London. I think Cruella Deville definitely ruled the runway here. The print looked so effective used on the looks and was amazing how it was used in so many different ways. Each model even had their hair styled like they had ears on their heads. Used in a very clever and non kid like way, I can see many London girls rocking this look in the East End.

GIVENCHY - Cats/Panthers was the reoccurring theme running throughout Givenchy's show. From the moment the lights went down there was a Panther's roar as the music kicked in. From the magic eye cat prints, to the cat ears, to the feline shaped fur glasses. There was a dark, sexy, mysterious feel to the show with the help from each of these animalistic touches used throughout the collection.

MARC BY MARC JACOBS - The panther and the Deer were used in this collection. Marc's influence on the animal trend in his previous Louis Vuitton collection has obviously filtered down into his Marc by Marc Jacobs line. Again the animals used were in a hidden print and from far away you wouldn't really be able to tell that is is even an animal. I love the way that the panther is used on a jacquard metallic fabric and the Deer was used in a different way, with a retro print also but on long, flowing silk fabrics. Both of these prints gave the collection a very 70's feel. Not only in his runway collection were there animal references but also in his RTW collection. There are a lot of mouse references throughout the collection but here it is used in more of a younger, fun way, from printed t-shirts, to the buttons, to the jewellery.

I think Marc Jacobs has a new love of animals and we will certainly be following in his animal footsteps to!

There were many other designers who were jumping on the animal band waggon whether it being from accessories to clothing. Giles Deacon for Ungaro and Christian Louboutin were just some of the others who were using the animal trend for their Fall Winter 2011 collections.

Thankyou Animal Prints

TRENDS - Fall Winter 2011 - Polka Dots

A trend that I have noticed emerging throughout the past few weeks of Fashion Week have been POLKA DOTS. A lot of the references came from designers who were inspired and influenced by the 70's retro fashions. A lot of designers felt they wanted to create something more severe and sharp in their Winter collection to contrast their previous Summer collections that have been loose and flowing, they wanted to try something harder with a slightly more masculine edge.

This POLKA DOT trend has been 'spotted' throughout the stores now with some of the current Spring/Summer 2011 collections. Versace, Giles, Fendi, Maxmara and Moschino are the brands where the polka dot trend has currently been seen. Most of the polka dots for this season were seen in quite the traditional way you would expect, for example to be teamed with red accessories and quite loose, flowy and feminine. Versace has used the polka dot trend in the more glamorous sexy Hollywood way.

FALL WINTER 2011

The designers for the Fall Winter collections each used the polka dots in  a more adventurous way and modernised the print which would normally be seen as quite a traditional print.

STELLA McCARTNEY used black and white polka dots in sheer fabrics. The polka dots started as quite large polka dots used as embellishment on the evening wear dresses and tops layered underneath quite masculine jackets, outerwear and trousers which as we know is what Stella does the best. As the show went on the polka dots seemed to get smaller and the dresses got more fitted and sexier and feminine revealing more and more skin as each look came out. By the final look we could see more polka dot sheer fabric then solid black fabric on the dress. It was nice to see Stella's collection evolve from her usual strong masculine pieces into the feminine sexy pieces. The final look was a real showstopper and I think many celebs will be trying to get this dress on speed dial for next season.

MARC JACOBS - Circles, circles and circles were shown in every way imaginable on the runway show. From the button hats, to the tights, to the dresses in different colours, sizes and styles. Marc is so good at predicting future trends that this is bound to be one that we will be seeing and wearing in the future. Each of the looks seemed to have a retro, vintage feel with a slight playful edge. Some of the looks from the collection almost reminds me of some of the scenes out of Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts. Marc definitely let his couture side of him come out of him for this collection and I think he will have a very successful season for Fall Winter 2011.

(all above images are taken from www.style.com)

Other designers showed us glimpses of the polka dot trend within their collections, Paul Smith and David Koma, Jill Stuart and Topshop Unique, each of the designers showed the print in their own unique way for their Fall Winter shows.

Who knew polka dots could be seen in so many different varieties! Use your imagination and have a rummage through your wardrobe to see what polka dot styles you could be wearing now!

Thankyou polka dots!
